GCVCC Opposes AB 2843

News from the Business Legislative Advocacy Committee

The GCVCC has joined with the California Chamber of Commerce and other organizations to respectfully oppose AB 2843 (Chu, D-San Francisco) as introduced.  The bill would add significant costs to businesses that are already struggling to maintain their operations during this pandemic and create yet another barrier to employers who attempt to maintain staffing or pay for their workforce.  Specifically, AB 2843 would require a city, county, or city and county to impose an annual tax of up to $150 per employee on all applicants for a local business license, unless they have 50 or fewer employees.

GCVCC Comments: Our local hospitality industry, specifically hotels and restaurants, have been hit hard by the COVID-19 crises.  The last thing they need at this moment is to incur an employee head tax.  While the chamber would likely oppose this effort in the best of times, that it comes under our current conditions is especially egregious.
