News from: The City of Indio
The application period for the ‘Help 2 Others Indio COVID-19 Water Bill Assistance Program’ is now extended though April 9, 2021. This four week extension will allow uninterrupted time for Indio Water Authority (IWA) customers to apply for help catching up with past due water bills.
Eligible IWA customers must:
- Have past due water bills issued after April 1, 2020 and due by December 31, 2020
- Demonstrate loss of job, reduction of income, health impact or other documentation connecting need to COVID-19
- Not have utilized other assistance to cover past due water charges during the qualification period
- Turn in an application before April 10, 2021 OR until funding is exhausted
“IWA clients who have past due water bills and a financial or health impact due to COVID-19 are encouraged to apply. Assistance is provided without regard to immigration status,” said Kristal Granados, CEO of United Way of the Desert. “Clients will only be asked to provide a copy of their water bill, proof of income and documentation of COVID-19 impact.”
The ‘Help to Others Indio COVID-19 Water Bill Assistance Program’ is funded through a $110,000 allocation of Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus funds from the City of Indio. United Way of the Desert is administering the program using an existing partnership with IWA. Up to 800 IWA customers could benefit from this program, with funds subject to a maximum cap.
