News from YMCA:
Help Support Programs and Services for Valley Kids during the Annual Campaign
Family YMCA of the Desert’s Annual Campaign takes place from February 1 through March 7, 2018. Each year, the Annual Campaign engages volunteers from the Coachella Valley to secure much-needed funding for the many programs and services offered by the renowned organization, including after-school childcare, sports, day camps, swim lessons and so much more.
Celebrating 35 years of providing services to residents of all ages in the Coachella Valley, Family YMCA of the Desert serves more than 3,800 children and families every day at 41 locations across the Coachella Valley from Palm Springs to Mecca. “I encourage everyone in the community to support our local YMCA and their ongoing programs,” stated Campaign Chair, Dodi Henry, owner of The Nest Restaurant in Indian Wells. “My children attended many programs at the Y, and I and my family wanted to step up this year and help raise as much as we can for this wonderful organization,” she concluded. The Y is the largest licensed childcare provider in the Coachella Valley, and one of the major employers, with over 400 staff members and 200 volunteers.
Family YMCA of the Desert programs include the Coachella Valley Housing Coalition, which helps provide homes for and improves the living conditions of low income individuals; Hope Through Housing, which creates community change in neighborhoods threatened by crime and poverty, by providing services such as homework help, healthy snacks, games, crafts and activities for kids in after school care; aquatics programs including swim lessons and exercise classes at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center and La Quinta Fritz Burns Park; the Youth and Government program for high school students, designed to give them a hands-on experience learning about state government through debate, legislative writing, and court litigation; as well as the more well-known programs such as youth sports, day camps, residents camps at Camp Oakes and Camp Fox, and after school care.
The fundraising goal for the 2018 Annual Campaign is $505,000. The Y offers many options for donations, including monthly scheduled payments, one-time donations and more. For additional information, or to donate today, visit www.ymcaofthedesert.org.
