News from: Supervisor V. Manuel Perez
A county transportation project that will finish all the sidewalks for the community of Carver Tract, an unincorporated neighborhood between Indio and Coachella, is getting ready for construction.
Supervisor V. Manuel Perez is holding a community meeting to go over the project as well as discuss other community improvements such as the alleyways and the community water system.
The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 18 in the multipurpose room at Martin Van Buren Elementary School at 47733 Van Buren Street, Indio, CA 92201.
“I am proud that we have dedicated the funding to finish all the community’s sidewalks in Carver Tract by next year,” said Supervisor Perez. “After 70 years, Carver Tract will have sidewalks as well as curbs and gutters, infrastructure that will provide a better place to live.”
The final phase of the Carver Tract Sidewalk Safety Improvement Project will put in sidewalks on six remaining streets. Phase 1 of the project was completed in November 2022. Sidewalk was also installed for residents along Avenue 48 in the recent Avenue 48 widening project. Last year, Supervisor Perez allocated $3.5 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, ARPA, to accelerate his goal of getting all the sidewalks and drainage improvements done for the residents and community of Carver Tract.
The sidewalk project is anticipated to begin construction in February 2025, and will last approximately five and a half months.
