News from: The City of Coachella
The City of Coachella has taken a significant step toward expanding regional transportation connectivity by advancing Site #2 in the historic downtown Pueblo Viejo area for further analysis as part of the Coachella Rail Station Feasibility Study. This decision follows a comprehensive evaluation of three potential sites which included input from a Technical Advisory Committee and community feedback gathered from a survey and public workshop held in November 2024.
The Coachella Rail Station Feasibility Study aims to evaluate a potential location for a new rail station and develop land use and connectivity plans for the surrounding area to increase community investment, accessibility, and mobility for Coachella and the wider region.
The proposed new rail station would be located at the end of the proposed Coachella Valley Rail (CV Rail) Project route. The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) in coordination with the Federal Railroad Administration and Caltrans is leading the CV Rail Project which would bring a daily intercity passenger rail service from Los Angeles through Orange County, and Riverside to the Coachella Valley.
“Advancing Site #2 in our historic downtown for the next phase of the study is a major milestone in expanding transportation options and economic opportunities for our community,” said Development Services Director Gabriel Perez. “This study is laying the groundwork for a future rail station that would increase our residents’ access to jobs, education, and entertainment options while supporting Coachella’s long-term economic growth and strengthening the connections between the Coachella Valley and the greater Southern California region.”
The analysis and information in the Coachella Rail Station Study will contribute to the final site selection, which will be determined during the formal Tier 2/Project-Level environmental review process for the CV Rail Project. The next phase of the station study will focus on visioning for transit-oriented development and creating conceptual station designs.
