The Board of Directors of Coachella Valley Repertory (CVRep) announced the addition of two new directors and a new Executive Board member. In announcing the new members, Joe Giarrusso, President said, “I am excited to have new blood on our board. We look at our existing composition and the core competencies and recruit to build our bench strength.”

Robert Moon was installed as a director on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. Since 2001, Robert Moon has been a Palm Springs resident, serving as the Mayor of Palm Springs from 2015 until 2019. Moon holds a BS from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and graduate studies at George Washington University. Current board positions for Moon include: Editorial Board of the Desert Sun; Co-Chair of Save the Plaza Theatre Steering Committee; and, President of Desert Roundtable. Said Moon “When I was first approached to join the Board of Directors, I was excited about the new facility and the tremendous leadership that promises to bring exciting new live cultural events to our Valley. Now, in light of the extraordinary economic impact of the coronavirus on our Valley, I intend to use my extensive executive experience to help ensure CVRep successfully weathers this challenge.”

Nicole Taylor will be installed at the March 2020 Board of Directors meeting. Unanimously voted to a three year term, Taylor is a senior accountant with Maryanov, Madsen, Gordon and Campbell in Palm Springs. Following Kevin Rotenberry’s resignation as Treasurer and his subsequent installment on CVRep’s Advisory Board, the Executive Board felt a CPA with nonprofit experience was an integral position for the board. Taylor is a CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner who specializes in audit for non-profits.

Director and Development Chairperson Mark Leonard has been appointed to the Executive Board and will start his term in May 2020. Leonard has led CVRep’s philanthropy and development efforts. His wealth of experience and advanced experience working in arts and art institutions is a critical knowledge base for CVRep. Leonard’s experience includes work with the Dallas Museum of Art, The J. Paul Getty Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others. Leonard’s exceptional grant writing has earned CVRep the coveted grant award from the Actors Equity Association.
Said Giarrusso, “The additions of Robert Moon and Nicole Taylor as directors, along with Mark Leonard’s move to the Executive Board, align with CVRep’s vision and mission. Mark’s move to the Executive Board as the development chairperson will give us greater exposure to the many facets of long term sustainability for this important non-profit. Equally important are Rob’s and Nicole’s knowledge of and connections to the Valley, its residents and visitors.”
