County Employees Host 15th Annual Youth in Government Day

Indio, CA – High school students from the Coachella Valley will shadow Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and 44 other county employees who are based in the Coachella Valley during the 15th Annual Fourth District Youth in Government Day on Thursday, March 15.

Supervisor Perez will make opening remarks at 8 a.m. as the students get paired up with their mentors at the Taj Mahal building at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio, 46-350 Arabia St.

After six hours of job shadowing, the students will regroup at the Taj Mahal building at 3 p.m.

“This event is a unique mentoring program that allows students to experience an introduction to the variety of career choices available in public service, specifically, county government,” said Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “I look forward to showing a student how local government impacts our daily life in the Coachella Valley, by sharing a day in the life of a county supervisor.”

Participating county departments include: Animal Services, Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, District Attorney’s Office, Economic Development Agency – Housing Authority, Human Resources, Probation, Public Social Services, Riverside University Health System – Behavioral Health, Sheriff’s, Transportation and Treasurer-Tax Collector.

The employees will be grouped with 94 high school students from eight participating high schools: Desert Christian Academy and Cathedral City, Coachella Valley, Desert Hot Springs, Indio, Palm Desert, Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage high schools.
