Desert Hot Springs Police Department to Conduct Active Shooter Training Exercise

News from Desert Hot Springs Police Department:

On Thursday, July 19, 2018 the Desert Hot Springs Police Department will partner with Riverside County CAL Fire and Palm Springs Unified School District to conduct an Active Shooter Training Exercise on the Desert Hot Springs High School campus.

This drill is a cooperative effort that will simulate a multi-discipline, multi-jurisdiction, and multi-agency response to an active shooter on a high school campus. Local school officials, law enforcement and firefighter/paramedics will respond to the incident and mitigate the effects of the simulated attack. The exercise will also include volunteers who will simulate specific roles, including victims and other bystanders.

“This exercise is designed to provide a learning environment for participants to carry out response plans, policies, and procedures.” said Dale Mondary, Chief of Police. “It will also provide an opportunity to implement multi-agency coordination with community partners and to familiarize responders with their roles and responsibilities in planning, preparing for, and responding to an active shooter incident.” he concluded.

There will be a significant amount of law enforcement personnel both on campus and in the surrounding areas before, during and after the exercise. We ask that the community avoid the area while the exercise is taking place.

Members of the media are invited to observe the exercise from designated areas. All inquiries on this exercise should be directed to Doria Wilms, Assistant to the City Manager and Public Information Officer for the City of Desert Hot Springs at (760) 333-0518.
