Angel Light Academy Honors 12 Community Members Who Positively Impact Our Community With Exemplary Leadership and Service

8th Annual Above & Beyond Awards on January 28

INDIAN WELLS, CA: Above & Beyond honorees were nominated by their peers for their proven excellence in community leadership and service. Angel Light Academy’s Leadership Training Institute will be hosting this prestigious event on January 28th at Indian Wells Golf Resort in the Pavilion beginning at 5:00 p.m. with cocktails/silent auction and 6:00 p.m. Awards Dinner Gala.

Honorees are from a unique array of service backgrounds: veterans, business, community, education, safety programs, social services, musical arts, healthcare, and youth.  This year’s select group of honorees represent some of the finest examples of devoted Coachella Valley citizens who have gone “Above & Beyond” and are often behind the scenes serving others to make our community a better place to live.

2017 Above and Beyond Honorees

Andrea Carter

Andrea Carter is a veteran in the PR business and shares her expertise through service to various organizations, which include St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shelter From The Storm, DesertArc, Girlfriend Factor, Women’s Leadership Forum.

Cameron Moulton

Cameron Moulton is the Director of Development and Training at Christopher’s Clubhouse and has worked with thousands of children, women, and elderly teaching them important skills to stay safe.

Suz Hunt

Suz Hunt was a successful business woman for over 30 years in the insurance industry and has used her expertise to assist various organizations since moving to the Coachella Valley over 10 years ago. She has made a huge impact by serving on the Boards for the COD Foundation and ACT for MS.

Congressman Paul Cook

As a retired Marine Colonel with 26 years of service, one of Congressman Cook’s top priorities in Congress is ensuring veterans receive the benefits and support they earned while honorably serving their country.

David Brinkman

David Brinkman has been the CEO and President of Desert AIDS Project for over 10 years and has helped lead the organization through expansion that has increased the number of volunteers and clients, reaching more people with more services than ever before.

Roberta Klein

Roberta Klein is the founder and president of the Read With Me program.  This program brings over 700 volunteers into East Valley schools to help over 3,400 students with reading and English Language skills.

Katie Slimko-Stice

Katie Slimko-Stice has been in various leadership positions for local Chambers of Commerce to help businesses and professionals become more successful, and served as Operational Director at the Children’s Discovery Museum.  She has been volunteering for over 20 years with various local organizations, such as YMCA of the Desert, Leadership Coachella Valley, and many more.

Maureen Forman

Maureen Forman is the Executive Director of Jewish Family Services and has focused her social work background on meeting the needs of the underserved by improving service delivery systems and collaborating with other agencies to deliver compassionate care to the entire Coachella Valley.

Julia Wilmot

Julia Wilmot is the Founder and President of Angel Light Academy.  She is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award for more than 40 years of service in various fields, including helping those with PTSD and founding Angel Light Academy, which provides leadership training for youth and adults.

Selby Dunham

Selby Dunham is the founder of Bighorn BAM, a non-profit organization that has raised millions of dollars to elevate cancer care for the entire valley by supporting cancer patients.

Sheriff Stan Sniff

Sheriff Stan Sniff has given over 40 years of distinguished service in law-enforcement and has been involved in service and leadership roles throughout Riverside County.

Suzanne Armstrong

Suzanne Armstrong is the founder of A & A Home Care Services, a Registry and Home Care Organization (HCO) that provides warm, personalized care to both home-bound and residential patients. She founded Care Kids of America to educate youth on the many needs of the community through direct involvement and hands-on projects.

ALA teaches leadership, team building, problem solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills to adults and youth in the Coachella Valley.
