GCVCC Statement on Passing of County Supervisor John Benoit

News from the GCVCC

Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit died Monday at his home in Bermuda Dunes, according to his office. He was 64.  Below is a statement on behalf of the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“John was a diligent worker and a trusted partner for our valley.  I was able to work with him in many capacities during my years in public affairs and always found him to be a dedicated advocate for the Coachella Valley.  He was particularly mindful of the Eastern Coachella Valley, trying to help out portions of our valley that may have been under-served.  He also dedicated a lot of time and energy to Salton Sea issues.  I will always appreciate John’s efforts for our valley, he will be missed.”

“One of my favorite encounters with John was not in an official capacity, it was at the Riverside County Date Festival.  I ran into him at the dog adoption center, he was there just visiting as a spectator but I actually think he ended up adopting a dog himself.  He spoke to me for almost 10 minutes about how many dogs had been adopted out during the week.  I would imagine as County Supervisor he had a thousand things on his plate, but he was so proud of how the community had responded to this need.  That was John, he was always thinking about the valley, every little detail of it and could we somehow do a little more to help here, to help there.  His impact on the community will not soon be forgotten by those who worked with him, and those who benefited most from those efforts.  Our Chamber and the entire business community sends it’s condolences to his family, staff, and friends during this difficult time. ”
