The Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce has signed on as an official partner of the 2020 Census. In that capacity they are responsible for disseminating information to the public, informing key stakeholders and partners why the Census effort is so important to the community, and generally promoting broad community participation to achieve an accurate population count.
Among the important factors determined by the 2020 Census will be funding formulas used for the next decade. The Census will help determine:
- Billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year.
- How many seats in Congress each state gets.
“You could make a strong argument the Census is the most important item on the chamber’s docket for next year,” said Joshua Bonner, Chamber President and CEO. “The count will help determine the valley’s share of federal funding for the next decade. The ramifications of that count are huge for vital infrastructure in the valley. Health clinics, fire departments, schools, roads and highways, all impacted by the census results.”
