Celebrate the announcement of the upcoming Indio Latin Rhythm Festival on Saturday, March 12 at the City of Indio’s 2nd Saturdays · Center Stage Event at Smurr and Miles in downtown Indio from 6 to 9 p.m. This month’s FREE concert and event series will spotlight Latin Jazz to generate excitement and enthusiasm for a new festival to be held in Indio Nov. 11-13, 2022.
This Saturday, experience Latin Jazz sensation Descarga Moraga, who will make you move with their Afro-Cuban, soul and salsa sounds, plus popular DJ and music producer Alf Alpha performing soulful funk and Latin music. In addition, La Poderosa radio’s newest DJ Eleazar Moya will introduce event executive producer Jim Luce of the Peabody and Grammy winning Luce Group, who will provide exclusive details about November’s Indio Latin Rhythm Festival lineup.
Luce produced the highly acclaimed Caramoor jazz festival in New York from 1994 to 2014, and now brings his extensive experience in cultural arts and entertainment to Indio. This week Luce partnered with the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance to moderate an online panel discussion of HBO’s feature documentary Fandango at the Wall, which will screen at Saturday’s downtown Indio event, and will be available for free viewing until March 10 here.
2nd Saturdays · Center Stage also welcomes an expanded local food experience to the March event! Outside the Masa, multi-award winner from the 2021 Indio International Tamale Festival joins Smokey Lips BBQ, Popping Off Pies, Mi Cocinita, DJ’s Louisiana Kitchen, Ruberry Salsa, desserts from the Desert Patisserie and Perfect Pint 760, and drinks via a mobile taproom from La Quinta Brewing Co. for those over 21.
In addition to the live music and documentary screening, free games and activities are available for adults and children, including corn hole, giant Jenga, yard pong, and bag toss. Please wear proper shoes for the uneven grass surface, bring extra blankets or lawn chair for seating, and dress for the weather.
