News from: Supervisor V. Manuel Perez
Hurkey Creek, a county park and idyllic getaway in Riverside County’s mountains, will get updated amenities with the approval of a project and funding today by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
The Hurkey Creek Park Beautification Project will fix landscaping, improve the restrooms, and give the park some needed maintenance such as painting the picnic tables, adding an icemaker and more horseshoe pits.
Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, who grew up going to Hurkey Creek and continues to visit, proposed the project for this community asset that is important to many families in the Coachella Valley as well.
“Hurkey Creek was a place we went to for vacation as a kid with our tíos, tías and cousins,” said Supervisor Perez. “And for many folks, especially on the east side, we like going there, it’s only an hour drive up the 74. So I’m very proud of the fact that we are making this investment here and building up Hurkey Creek for more generations.”
Hurkey Creek is located off Highway 74 in the San Jacinto Mountains. It is operated by the Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District. The address is 56375 Highway 74, Mountain Center, CA 92561. The phone number for more information is 951-659-2050.
