A dangerous amendment that would undermine aviation security, delay millions of flyers, and set TSA screening back decades is being considered as part of the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill.
The amendment, proposed by Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Senator John Kennedy (R-LA), would immediately prevent the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from using most biometric screening technology at airport checkpoints, which is in use at the largest and busiest airports in the U.S.
In a time where our global competitors are consistently embracing new technologies to improve travel, the United States should not adopt regressive policies that would effectively inhibit innovation and restrict our global competitiveness.
