News from: LifeStream Blood Bank
Did you know that more than one-half of all blood donations LifeStream receives are collected at mobile blood drives? It’s true! Our bloodmobiles play a crucial role in our mobile collection effort.
Bloodmobiles allow us to “go to the donors” seven days a week. Unfortunately, two of our bloodmobiles that are about 15 years old need to be replaced soon because they no longer meet State and Federal vehicle emission standards. Four more need to be replaced next year!
As you can imagine, purchasing new, more environmental-friendly bloodmobiles is a costly proposition. The price tag for one new bloodmobile is approximately $250,000. Needing two within a short timeframe presents a huge challenge for LifeStream and is the reason we created the LifeStream 2 for 2 Community Campaign. From now through April 30th, we are asking individuals to give just $2 to the campaign. We have also set a goal of encouraging 500 small businesses throughout the Coachella Valley and Inland Empire to make a $20 donation. If everyone pitches in, these funds combined with contributions we expect to receive from major business partners and community foundations will virtually guarantee that we will reach our goal of raising $500,000 this year.
This minimal investment will pay enormous dividends toward our community’s overall wellness. Having new bloodmobiles rolling through our communities will ensure we meet our goal of collecting 500 units (pints) per day. LifeStream staff will also continue to perform tens of thousands of “mini-physicals” on potential donors during the screening process—an incredible community service we gladly provide.
The H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation has generously offered to match the first $50,000 in community donations we collect—effectively doubling the donations we receive from individuals and small businesses.
