Shop Local, Strengthen Local: La Quinta Launches Community Card Program

June 11, 2026

News from: The City of La Quinta

The City of La Quinta is making it easier than ever for residents, visitors, and organizations to support local businesses with the launch of the La Quinta Community Card, a digital gift card program designed to keep more dollars circulating within the local economy.

The Community Card works like a traditional gift card but with a community-focused twist. Rather than being limited to a single business, cardholders can redeem their balance at participating La Quinta businesses, encouraging them to discover new local shops, restaurants, and service providers while supporting the businesses that make La Quinta unique.

A Win for Businesses and Consumers

The program offers benefits for everyone involved. Residents and visitors can purchase Community Cards as birthday gifts, holiday presents, thank-you gestures, or simply as a way to support local businesses. Organizations can use the cards for employee recognition, customer appreciation programs, incentives, giveaways, and promotional campaigns. Community events and City programs can also leverage the cards for contests, volunteer recognition, and special initiatives.

For participating businesses, the program provides an opportunity to attract new customers and increase local spending without adding operational complexity. Community Card holders are encouraged to visit participating merchants, helping businesses reach new audiences and generate additional revenue.

Simple and Free to Participate

One of the most appealing aspects of the Community Card program is its simplicity. Businesses do not need to purchase new hardware, install software, or change their existing payment systems. The cards operate through the Mastercard® network and can be processed just like any other card transaction. Funds are deposited through the merchant’s existing payment processor, making redemption seamless.

Best of all, there is no cost to join. Participating businesses receive the full value of redeemed transactions, minus their standard credit card processing fees.

How It Works

Joining the program is straightforward:

  1. Register to participate.
  2. Activate your business through a simple verification process.
  3. Promote your participation with Community Card signage and marketing materials.
  4. Accept Community Cards at checkout.
  5. Receive payment through your existing payment processing system.

Businesses that enroll are automatically added to the Community Card directory, helping customers easily find where they can shop and spend locally.

Marketing and Support Included

Participating businesses will also receive access to marketing resources, including window clings, bag stuffers, social media templates, and newsletter content to help spread awareness. Ongoing technical support is available to assist merchants and ensure a smooth experience.

Join the Movement

The La Quinta Community Card represents more than a gift card—it’s an investment in the city’s economic vitality. By encouraging residents, visitors, businesses, and community organizations to spend locally, the program helps strengthen La Quinta’s business community and keep dollars working right here at home.

Businesses interested in joining the Community Card network can contact Marcie Graham at [email protected] to get started.
